How much does it cost to apply for a passport in kenya ?

The Kenyan passport is issued to Kenyans in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and as provided for in the Kenya Citizens and Immigration Act that commenced on 30th August 2011. The process of issuing is regulated by Legal Notice No. 64 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigrations Regulations,2012.

Passports are issued by the Department of Immigration which is under the Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government. Eligible persons can apply for a new, renewal or replacement passport and pay for it online. The requirements needed for application are; Applicants must appear in person for digital photo and biometrics capture, eCitizen prefilled application form and three invoices, original and copy of national ID, old passport for replacement and copy of recommender's ID card. It should take at least 10 wotking days to get a new passport after submission of documents and at least 5 working days for other application types.

There are several types of Kenyan passports;32 page ordinary "A" series, 48 page ordinary "B" series, 64 page ordinary "C" series, East African and Diplomatic. The cost of a passport depends on its type. A 32 pages ordinary series is sh4,550, 48 pages ordinary series is sh6,050, 64 pages ordinary series is sh7,550, East African passport is sh990, Diplomatic sh7,550. A multilated passport will cost sh10,050 while replacing a lost passport costs sh12,050.
