The Big Brother show was officially launched on the 5th of March 2006, with its first edition ending on 4th June, 2006.

After 11 years, the second edition was done on 22nd January 2017 and ended on 9th April 2017.

These two editions of Big Brother Naira were held in South Africa, the first edition was won by Katung Aduwak, the second was won by Efe Ejeba.

Since the program is a franchise own by a Nigerian, watched mostly by Nigerians as they participate largely in the voting process, it raised some sort of concern since the program was shot in South Africa, due to the high condemnation by its the audience, the big brother moved the program to Lagos Nigeria in 2018 where the third edition was shot.

According to the Chief Customer Officer of Multichoice, Martin Mabutho, “It made sense that we bring it here. The first one we did was See Gobe, and Double Wahala last year eclipsed See Gobe. It was completely flawless.

“Now at that state we said there’s no doubt that bringing the show to Nigeria would be the right decision. It would be worth the investment and it’s exciting for us.

“Corporate Nigeria and sponsors have latched onto it in a big way so in my view, it’s going to be bigger than all the shows we have ever done,” Mabutho stated.

The third edition of Big Brother Naija began on 28th January, 2018 and ended on 22nd April, 2018, it was won by Miracle Igbokwe.

While, the season four edition began on June 30th and ended on 6th October, 2018. It was won by Mercy Eke.

Since October 2018 to date, the program has not been shot owing to the fact that Nigerians had i'ts general elections in 2019 and now COVID 19 in 2020.
